Dr. Ibrahim Karim, founder of BioGeometry

Dr. Ibrahim Karim is an Egyptian architect and the founder of BioGeometry, a system exploring the relationship between geometric form, living systems and the energetic qualities of our surroundings. His work brings together architecture, design, ancient Egyptian traditions and his concept of a Physics of Quality.

An Architectural Foundation

Educated at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), Dr. Karim earned his architecture qualification in 1967 and his doctorate in 1975. His professional background includes hospital design, community health facilities, residential projects and regional planning.

This architectural foundation shaped a question central to his work: how can the spaces we create better support the people who inhabit them? His exploration extended beyond the appearance and function of buildings to the relationships between people, their surroundings and the qualities of place.

The Development of BioGeometry

Through decades of investigation, Dr. Karim developed BioGeometry’s principles of shape, proportion, orientation, colour, sound and motion. Central to his approach is BG3—the term he uses for three subtle energy qualities associated, within the BioGeometry system, with balance and centring.

He developed proprietary shapes and design methods intended to introduce these qualities into everyday environments. His first BioGeometry shapes were patented in 1993, and he established BioGeometry Consulting Ltd. in 1997.

From Buildings to Everyday Life

Dr. Karim’s work encompasses architectural design, environmental applications, BioSignatures and products for personal and home use. BioGeometry’s educational programmes share these principles through an international network of instructors and students.

His work invites us to consider our surroundings more deeply: the forms we create, the spaces we occupy and our relationship with the natural world.
